Need motivation? Take a look at some of these tips

Mental Wellbeing

Many of us have at least one thing we want to change in our lives. However, it can be challenging to gain the motivation to make the start.

You may feel like everything is moving slowly for you, or it may feel like there is negativity keeping you from achieving your goals. As hard as it may be to get started, it is important for you to follow through on your plans in achieving your goals.

Whether it be a long-term goal or a short-term goal, keeping focused and motivated is the key to success. Here are a few tips that can help you get your gears going:

Understanding your why

Sometimes it is not much about what or how you’re going to do it but your why – the purpose, or the end goal you’re trying to achieve with what you are doing. Your why serves as a purpose and a compass to guide you to achieving your goals.

Knowing your why motivates you by reminding you that what you’re going through would be worth it in the end. Moreover, knowing your why can orient your decision-making. If you have a clear vision of what you are working towards, it can be easy to overlook distractions.

Setting realistic goals

It is difficult to set realistic goals. We may often set big goals but fail to achieve them as we skipped a step in making them specific and realistic. Setting SMART goals can help you organise the steps and ways you can approach different goals.

SMART stands for:

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Achievable

R – Realistic

T – Time-based

By planning the steps you need to take to achieve your goals based on these characteristics, your plans would be achievable!

Be nice to yourself (and celebrate the small and big victories)

You may face setbacks along the way but it is important to continue seeing yourself in a positive light. If you achieved a goal, big or small, it’s still an accomplishment. Be sure to be kind to yourself and treat yourself for the goals you achieve. When you’ve celebrated, your motivation would be reinforced and you will keep on working towards your next goals.
